Every year at the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month the TwoMinutes Silence
is observed at Memorials in the County and wreaths are laid in remembrance.
The City of Derby has three services on 11th November (Armistice Day) commencing at 10.45am in readiness
for the Two Minutes Silence at eleven o'clock. These services take place at The War Memorial, Market Place,
Derby, Soldier's Corner in Nottingham Road Cemetery, Derby and on Platform One, Railway Station, Derby.
The service at Soldier's Corner in the Cemetery has been going for many years. A maroon rocket is launched
to mark the start of the Two Minutes Silence. The Two Minutes Silence at the City War Memorial in the Market
Place is only a recent event. It was instigated by the Derbyshire Royal British Legion following comments
by the general public. The City Mayor and the Deputy Mayor attends one or other of the events along with
Members of The Royal British Legion and the Public.
The service on Platform One, Railway Station, Derby takes place at the North end of the platform. There
are number of Memorial plaques situated on the boundary wall, these were removed from the workshops of the
former Locomotive Works before they were demolished. Former employees of the Works, present railway staff and
Members of The Royal British Legion attend this service and observe the Two Minutes Silence. Follow

In Swadlincote, the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, Members of the Royal British Legion and Members
of the public gather in the High Street, Swadlincote, near to the new Alworth's store and observe the Two
Minutes Silence paying tribute to brave servicemen and women who have lost their lives in conflict.
Ilkeston Branch of The Royal British Legion hold a service commemorating Armistice Day at the Cenotaph in the Market
Place, Ilkeston. The Two Minutes Silence is held at 11.00am.
