Fundraising Ideas (Schools)

By fundraising for The Royal British Legion, your school could play a vital role in giving day to day support to thousands of serving and ex-Service people and their families throughout Derbyshire and the United Kingdom.  Here are some suggestions of how you could help us, or you could come up with your own fundraising ideas:

* Hold a 'Poppy Auction&' selling items you have decorated with a poppy theme.  Items could include tiles, vases and flower pots, or even a bike or T-shirt.

* Hold a 'School Fete' with raffles, tombola, races for pupils and parents, etc.

* Hold a 'School Treasure Hunt' with each class contributing a prize and each pupil paying a small entry fee.

* Raise money for The Royal British Legion at your school jumble sale, concert or play.

* Organize a 'Fancy Dress Competition' - you could give it a military or historical theme and have different categories for pupils of different ages.

* Donate the collection at your school carol concert or Remembrance service to The Royal British Legion.

* Hold a 'Teachers versus Pupils' sporting event such as a cricket, hockey, netball or football match in aid of The Royal British Legion and spectators donate a fee to watch.

* Hold a sponsored event such as a 'Sponsored Silence', although you may have to last longer than two minutes!

* Hold a 'Guess How Many' competition with a picture of poppies (make sure the person in charge of the competition knows the answer!).

* Organise a 'Uniform-Free Day' at school, where pupils can wear what they choose and pay for the pleasure, with funds raised going to The Royal British Legion.

* Hold a 'Car Boot Sale' in your school grounds.

* Hold a 'Car Washing Day'.

* Host a beat the 'Eggheads' type quiz with pupils pitching their general knowledge against the teachers.  The audience donate a fee to watch.

* Feeling musical?  Why not hold a 'Battle of the Bands' or 'X-Factor' type 'competition?  Invite friends and family to come along and watch for a small donation.

* Hold a 'Christmas Fair' with one of your teacher's playing Santa for the day.

* Hold an 'ANZAC Tea Dance' for the local community.

* Why not hold a 1940's night?  2009 was the 70th Anniversary of the start of the Second World War and the 65th Anniversary of D-Day.  Get pupils involved with creating their own 'Dig for Victory' - type posters, cooking dishes using only rationed food, making costumes using the 'make do and mend' philosophy and if you have a school orchestra, get them to play some Glen Miller tunes while you to learn to jitterbug!
