Three Derbyshire volunteers receive awards for Legion welfare work The awards were certificates and given to the
recipients 'in recognition of their valued contribution in support of Legion beneficiaries'.
Carol Clarke who is 60, lives in Clowne, Derbyshire, she became involved with the Legion in 1987. Her late husband served
in the Army and her father was in the RAF. She volunteered as a way of repaying the Legion, after it funded her son's
study at Derby College for four years. She is a Welfare Caseworker, a Mentor to Welfare Volunteers in Derbyshire and
Nottinghamshire and is a Member of the Derbyshire County Welfare Advisory Committee.
Chris Drury who is 67 and lives in Allestree, Derby, he joined the Littleover Branch of the Legion back in 1962, where he
is now the Vice-Chairman and Welfare Representative. He is a County Welfare Caseworker and is the Chairman of the
Derbyshire County Welfare Advisory Committee, a member of the County Management Committee and runs the Derbyshire Royal
British Legion website.
The awards were presented to Carol and Chris in the County Offices in Derby by Sue Freeth the National Director for Welfare
at The Royal British Legion Head Office in London. Sue Freeth carried out the presentation on Friday 1st July 2011.

The third receiver of an award was Bill Radford who is 67 and is an ex-pat from Chellaston, Derby. On retirement he moved to Spain and lives in Algarrobo Costa where he became involved with the Legion. He joined the Torre del Mar Branch and is the Branch Chairman and also the Branch Welfare Chairman. He was presented with his award at the Welfare Conference in Telford on 16th May 2011.
