Poppy Appeal Launch 2011

The Derbyshire County  Poppy Appeal Launch for 2011 took place outside of the main entrance of the B2net Stadium home of Chesterfield Football Club on Friday 28th October 2011. The launch was performed by the chairman of the club Mr Barrie Hubbard when he bought the first poppy from Colin Picken (County Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator).  Mr Hubbard was accompanied by his wife Janet.


The Poppy Appeal Launch began with a parade around the outside perimeter of the stadium by fourteen motor bikes carrying Members of The Royal British Legion Riders Branch.  Many of the bikes were decorated with Poppies and Legion flags.  The Riders Branch Members actively support the The Royal British Legion  and the Poppy Appeal throughout the year. Also present at the launch was Mr Toby Perkins who is the Labour MP for Chesterfield, WO2 Steve Marsh from 73 Engineer Regiment (V), Christopher Parrott from 2 Mercian Regiment, Mrs Judith Wright mother of Drummer Thomas Wright who was killed in action in 2007, Bernard Page (County Chairman), Paul Mulingani (County Manager), Legion Members and Members of Derbyshire County Committee.


Christopher Parrott was injured twice while serving in Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion Mercian Regiment.  He is the grandson of Jack Parrott who used to be the Poppy Appeal Organiser for Chesterfield, Jack accompanied his grandson to the launch.
