25 September 2011
At a ceremony held on Sunday 25 September 2011 at a north Derbyshire lorry depot an
Eddie Stobart truck was named 'Poppy 90' to honour the 90th anniversary of The Royal British Legion.
The vehicle, a Volvo Reg. No. PX61 BHZ owned by national distribution firm Eddie Stobart, was named at the Tesco
Chesterfield Distribution Centre Open Day and Stobart Club Day in Clowne, near Chesterfield. 'Poppy 90' was
met at the entrance to the centre by Samuel Clarke Standard Bearer for Whitwell Branch of The Royal British Legion
and escorted 'her' to 'her' position in the car park. The naming was then carried out by Carol Clarke, Branch
Secretary and Welfare Representative for Whitwell Branch. She is also a County Caseworker.
Carol had won the chance to name an Eddie Stobart truck as a prize in a raffle during the first open day at the depot
in June of this year. The naming was a complete surprise and an emotional moment for her. She works
tirelessly for The Royal British Legion and was providing the tea, coffee and cakes during the event, raising funds
for the Alzheimer's Association and The Royal British Legion.
