Chatsworth Country Fair

2 - 4 September 2011

This year was the 30th Anniversary of the  Chatsworth Country Fair at Chatsworth, Derbyshire DE45 1PP. This was a three day event taking place from Friday 2nd September to Sunday 4th September 2011. The Official Opening was performed by this year's Show President former Yorkshire and England Cricketer Michael Vaughan.

There were all kinds of stands and stalls around the show ground including The Royal British Legion County Marquee. Entertainment included massed pipe and military bands, demonstrations and parades, hot-air balloons and parachuting displays. Country activities included clay pigeon shooting, horse shoeing, ferret racing, archery and sheep dog trials. The highlight for many was the superb display by the Red Arrows which also proved to be very emotional, being the first display since the tragic accident at Eastbourne.  Many were able to sign the book of condolence in the Red Arrows tent.

The Country Fair was a roaring success for Derbyshire Royal British Legion and it culminated with the draw for the 90th Anniversary Raffle, which took place in the County Marquee. In attendance in the County Marquee were the County Recruiting Team; Yvonne Robinson, Dilys Elliker and Stuart Allen, County Committee  Members; Brian Brown, Ron Elliker, John Price and Colin Picken  They were assisted by the County Fund Raiser Christine Selden with Pat Price and Janet Picken.

Visitors to the County Marquee included; Steven Faulkner the Derbyshire Poppy Calls Person (our man with the van) on the Friday, Rowland from The Royal British Legion Riders Branch on the Saturday (his bike was a popular attraction).  Then on the Sunday afternoon Lord and Lady Dannatt paid a visit to carry out the draw of the 90th Anniversary Raffle.  Stuart Allen the County Vice-Chairman welcomed Lord and Lady Dannatt on behalf of the County, and presented Lord Dannatt with a pair of Derbyshire RBL cufflinks and her Ladyship was presented with a poppy wreath brooch. Also present for the draw was the County Padre, The Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Lewis and her husband George.

Lord Dannett was formerly General Francis Richard Dannatt, GCB, CBE, MC, DL, Chief of the General Staff.  He is patron of Norfolk Royal British Legion and Lady Philippa is the President of the County Woman’s Section. He is now the Constable of the Tower of London.
