Ken Brazier, who is 81 years old, has once again cycled to the continent completing a ride from
London to Paris raising money for the Poppy Appeal. This is the sixth time that he has completed the
ride, three of the previous rides were to Paris, one to the Ardennes and another to Brussels.
Ken has raised more than £7,000 since his first ride which took place in 2003, but he says that
this year will be his final ride after raising a further £TBA.
Ken who is President of Allestree Branch of The Royal British Legion served in the Royal Air
Force for 29 years serving in Malaya, Cyprus and in the Suez Canal zone, ending up as a Chief
Technician. After leaving the RAF, he worked as an Instructor at a technical training school
in Mansfield Road, Derby.
The ride to Paris starting from Greenwich Park, in London, on 2nd September had overnight stays
in Calais, Abbeville and Beauvais before reaching the French capital. Around 250 riders
along with Ken rode up the Champs Elysees before being guests of honour at a ceremony to
commemorate the war dead.
Before setting off to Paris, Ken was in his cycling kit at the Park Farm shopping centre in
Allestree, collecting donations along with Pat Godfrey, the Allestree Branch Poppy Appeal
Organizer.
