London to Paris Cycle Ride

September 2010

Ken Brazier, who is 81 years old, has once again cycled to the continent completing a ride from London to Paris raising money for the Poppy Appeal. This is the sixth time that he has completed the ride, three of the previous rides were to Paris, one to the Ardennes and another to Brussels. Ken has raised more than £7,000 since his first ride which took place in 2003, but he says that this year will be his final ride after raising a further £TBA.

Ken who is President of Allestree Branch of The Royal British Legion served in the Royal Air Force for 29 years serving in Malaya, Cyprus and in the Suez Canal zone, ending up as a Chief Technician. After leaving the RAF, he worked as an Instructor at a technical training school in Mansfield Road, Derby.

The ride to Paris starting from Greenwich Park, in London, on 2nd September had overnight stays in Calais, Abbeville  and Beauvais before reaching the French capital. Around 250 riders along with Ken rode up the Champs Elysees before being guests of honour at a ceremony to commemorate the war dead.

Before setting off to Paris, Ken was in his cycling kit at the Park Farm shopping centre in Allestree, collecting donations along with Pat Godfrey, the Allestree Branch Poppy Appeal Organizer.
