At a presentation ceremony on the steps of the County Hall, Matlock on Monday 7th December 2009 a
cheque for £1,300.00 was presented to Bernard Page, County Chairman of Derbyshire Royal British
Legion. The money was collected by forty County Councillors who joined forces to support the
County's Servicemen and Servicewomen. They each made donations and in addition Councillor Robin
Baldry added an amount of money from his Chairman's Fund. In return for the donation The Royal
British Legion gave wreathes for the Councillors to lay at war memorials across the County at
Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Councillor Baldry said: "We are committed to showing our appreciation of the armed forces, past
and present. We introduced a memorial service at our County Hall headquarters this year and
we are planning a special military parade and march past next year to celebrate our armed forces".
Councillors from all parties made donations and the wreathes were laid across Derbyshire - paying
respect to the brave men and women who have given their lives in conflicts across the globe.
Bernard Page said: "We are delighted to have the support of the County Council to provide help to
our armed forces. The donated money will help support the ex-Service community in the county".
