Training

The training of Members in The Royal British Legion is an important aspect in need to gain knowledge.  This is so that the wide range of activities of this organisation can be carried out effectively and within the requirements of the Royal Charter.

The size of the task makes the County the key element in training and the County Training Officer is the centre of nearly all training activity, the exception being the training of Welfare Caseworkers, which is carried out by staff from the Welfare Office.

When it is established that a Member is in need of attending a training course, applications should be submitted to the County Training Officer, County Secretary, County Chairman or County Committee. At present, where a Member's application for training has been approved, they may choose the location of the course they would prefer to attend. In order to reduce accommodation and travelling costs, Members should attend a course which is within their Region and easy reach. Where a course is held in-house then the member should attend that course.

It is important that the County Training Officer gets to know early in the year which courses Members wish to attend. This is so that when possible a course can be organised to run in-house and to ensure that the Trainers are available.

Members are reminded that once they have qualified following attendance at certain courses they will need to attend a Refresher Course every year. If they do not attend a Refresher Course within two years their name will be removed from the list of Qualified Members and they would not be used in that capacity until they had attended a refresher.

Courses

The following courses will be held during the year.  Those listed for Notts & Derby will generally be held in-house.  If there is not a course available, there may be one in another area of the Country.  The County Training Officer (see below) has a full list of all courses available.
